Viva House - short documentary, 2018
Every Wednesday, Viva House opens its doors in Southwest Baltimore, where Willa and Brendan have run a food kitchen for over 50 years. In one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods—marked by unemployment, homelessness, and violence—the couple and their team of volunteers have created a haven of dignity and care. Set entirely within the two modest row houses they’ve operated since 1968, the film follows a single day at the food pantry, offering an intimate glimpse into their daily work. Over the decades, Willa and Brendan have served more than a million meals, launched after-school programs, and led reading groups for children—building a network of support that empowers their community. Though the camera never leaves the confines of Viva House, the film speaks to the broader struggles of life in the inner city and the quiet strength of those who refuse to give up.
